Frequently referenced in travel‐related quotation collections, though I would argue has little to do with actually traveling. Perhaps more of a precursor to “WYSIWYG” or “You get what you pay for.” In any case, it’s quite effective at conjuring a strong image…and keeping the more fun alternative to the word donkey in play.
